Reena was follower of the month on espirational.com and gave a wonderful comment about serenity. It’s in agreement with my thought that serenity is the art and skill of learning how to live in the flow of life peacefully, not how to try to force life to flow as we desire. So what is “serenity”? I believe it is the key ingredient to living a peaceful, spiritual life which can lead us closer to the Christian ideal of what is prayed for in the “Lord’s Prayer” which states the desire of: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.” Put simply, serenity is defined by Webster’s dictionary for kids as “PEACEFULNESS.”
But with so many people in the world, and with each person being so different from the rest, how could a peaceful state of existence ever be expected on this planet? Is this a test of faith which stretches it to its breaking point? I believe that to experience peace while living on this planet, that peace must first be felt within. But the question then becomes how do we do that?
Do we pray? Practice Yoga as Reena teaches? Meditate? Does exercise help? Certain foods? Personally, I find that using the Serenity Prayer, which Reena quoted in her post on espirational.com, and trying to visualize its implications, helps me most in trying to experience a peaceful lifestyle.
